Essex dogging hotspots new online list

An online website has revealed the most popular dogging sites in Essex.

The list, published on the ‘doggingafterdark’, of 33 sites, includes the woods by the disused public toilets in the west of Witham and a field off Hurrells Lane in Little Baddow, Chelmsford.

Other sites include Langdon Hills Country Park in Basildon, Cudmore Grove Country park in Mersea Island and a car park off Colchester Road in Coggeshall.

Other sites include a spot behind Leigh-on-Sea railway station, a car park beside a Travelodge hotel in Southgate Road between Romford and Southend and a car park opposite the Camelot Pub in Chigwell.

A further two on the hit list include Clacton’s Holland Haven Country Park and a car park at Hainault’s country park.

Mid Devon beauty spot ‘over-run’ by doggers

WALKERS say they have had enough of strangers who are meeting for casual sex at a Mid Devon beauty spot which has become one of the South West’s most popular spots for dogging.

Land near Bolham has been advertised on several websites including Dogging AfterDark, as one of the best places to engage in the practice of watching strangers have sex in public places in the East Devon area.

Because it is close to the M5 motorway and the A361 North Devon Link Road, and has space for car parking, the site has been “over-run” in recent weeks, said one woman who exercised her dogs there.

“It used to be a bit of a problem on some nights of the week, and I didn’t feel safe there after dark,” she said.

The site is described on one site as being an excellent place to meet for sex with strangers because of its transport links and the fact that there are ramshackle farm buildings and hedges for privacy.

Police say they are unsure whether those meeting at the spot for sex are breaking the law, and the Devon & Cornwall Force is currently reviewing its policy on dogging.

Dogging in Plymouth on the increase

A POPULAR park and an historic beauty spot have been named on a list of dogging websites where strangers meet for sex in front of spectators.

Those who take part claim the activity falls through a legal loophole because it is not an offence to have sex in public unless it causes outrage to a witness.

These dogging hotspots include Central Park, Devil’s Point, Jennycliff, Thorn Park in Mannamead and car parks in Ivybridge and Plympton.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said the force is trying to tackle the anti social behaviour, but its powers to stop it are limited.

“Having sex in a public place is not actually an offence – the offence is one of public indecency, or public nuisance – so it’s difficult to enforce any law. We cannot arrest anyone simply for having sex in a public place,” he said.

“We are aware of the issue, and we’ve asked officers to disrupt the problem. We say to people to tell the police about it and we’ll see how we can deal with it, but ultimately it’s not just down to the police, it’s also one for the local authority.”

Americans Dogging

Dogging, a sexual trend that has emerged in the UK over the past ten years or so, is starting to catch the attention of many Americans across the pond. Dogging is simply a broad term for driving alone or with a paramour to a predetermined location late at night to meet other randy individuals for sexual antics. Those antics can run the gamut from watching couples have sex in their cars, having group sex in larger cars (um, ouch?) or whatever wild fiasco the mood calls for. Why the term “dogging”? Apparently the origins stem from the age-old “Just walking the dog” excuse for ditching the wife and banging whoever you meet in the bushes. Again. Those Brits.

Dogging (or shall we call them meetings?) are usually arranged online and anyone who is game is welcome. Dogging websites like doggingafterdark  have popped up all over to determine good areas, and apparently 60 percent of England’s parks have been used as dogging sites. And you thought only homicidal maniacs like to hang out in parks at night.

In an article on the subject from doggingafterdark, Leander Kahney writes, “Dogging appears to be popular and widespread, attracting heterosexual couples and single men and women of all ages, income brackets and backgrounds.” A well known football player (that’s soccer, to you Yanks) recently made headlines when he admitted to participating in dogging sometimes multiple times in a week. The surprsing aspect of the story? No one seemed all that surprised.

Council refuses to close ‘dogging’ lay-by

A COUNCIL has refused to close a notorious “dogging” lay-by despite pleas from the public, local councillors and police.

A lay-by close to The Swan House roundabout, near Darlington, has become notorious as a meeting point for “doggers” and “cruisers” – people who engage in voyeuristic sexual acts in public.

Despite a recent police crackdown, the lay-by continues to be used by thrill-seekers, with more than 80 warning letters sent to people caught in the area since August.

A spokeswoman from Darlington Borough Council said: “The council is aware of the problem and our highways officers have met with police and local ward councillors to look at ways to tackle the issue.

“This activity is not condoned in any way, the agreed approach is for the police to undertake enforcement and a recent joint meeting with police and ward councillors suggests this is having an impact with numerous enforcement letters already issued.

“There is a concern that closing the lay-by will simply move the problem somewhere else, which does not resolve the problem.

“The lay-by is used for legitimate reasons throughout the day and to close it may not necessarily resolve the problem.

33 New dogging locations added this week

Dogging in on the increase

Dogging is not new, but like most trends it’s experiencing a cyclical surge in popularity. Dogging is an adrenaline-filled sexual practice that can go from innocent, if the couple only wants to be seen having sex, to much more risqué, when the participation of others is allowed. It combines exhibitionism, voyeurism and swinging.

Although it emerged in the 70´s in England, today dogging has become fashionable again thanks to E. L. James’s worldwide success of “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

It seems the word dogging derives from the term”walk the dog,” because of dog owners who took advantage of the of their daily hike to spy on couples having sex in the open. For others, the word refers to having sex in public, like dogs. Dogging refers to heterosexual couples, as the gay community reserves the term cruising.

Typical participants range in ages between 25 and 55. Doggers are heterosexual couples who like this kind of practice and get a higher level of satisfaction when engaging in these sexual practices.

Today, dogging consists of anonymous sexual intercourse in public places such as parks, beaches, forests and other vacant urban areas, as well as in public restrooms and highway rest areas. The difference between dogging and sex between a man and a woman “doing it anywhere” is that doggers go to these places to be seen by voyeurs or prying eyes, which may or may not be invited to participate.

Before social networks became the norm for “hooking up”, contacts were made in person and were limited to some known locations such as parks within the dogging community, until they were discovered by the police. Currently, there are forums and websites like Dogging After Dark that in addition to promoting contacts, lay out the rules of the meeting. The individual who organizes the meet balances the number of doggers with voyeurs as the participants see fit.
